Centralized Scheduling

In a roundtable discussion format with a facilitator to keep things moving, let's learn from each other! What is centralized scheduling? How centralized are you? What are the arguments for and roadblocks faced if you're trying to centralize? What about software? How do you hold people accountable for following the rules? What are some best practices that already exist that could be built upon or shared to others just starting to sail unchartered waters? And, perhaps a most favorite topic discussion in Region 4, how did you do it? We all love to learn from each other and centralized scheduling seems to be a hot topic right now.

Host the Fall DC Consortium
It would be great for one of the area schools to host the Fall DC Consortium.  If you have a new space you would like to showcase or if you have space and would like for us to see—so we can help you get the word out—it would be great for you to host the Fall DC Consortium.  Any date in Oct-Dec would be great—except for the ACCED-I  Educational forum which is Nov 16-17.  Please let Kim Araya know and she can assist you in putting on the Fall DC Consortium.

The College of William and Mary Conference & Events Office to Manage Kimball Theater
The College of William and Mary has leased the Kimball Theatre, a local theatre located in Merchant’s Square – the heart of downtown Williamsburg and a part of Colonial Williamsburg. The theatre will provide the College with a performance and teaching venue as renovation and construction begins in summer 2018 on the College’s Arts Quarter and continues over a two year period.  In the meanwhile, the Kimball Theatre is operating as a venue for the performing arts, film festivals, and other special events.  This interim use of the Kimball Theatre is being managed by W&M’s Conference & Event Services Office.

Do you want to get more from your ACCED-I membership? Do you want to help build your professional network? Are you looking for a leadership opportunity for your own professional development? Are you interested in volunteering but afraid of the time commitment that might be involved on top of your already busy conference and event professional’s schedule? Well, you’ve come to the right place to make those inquiries – ACCED-I’s Region 4!

We have several ways that you can be involved – and the level of commitment varies greatly! If you’re looking to gain some experience and get your feet wet in the association, join us by serving on a committee that only convenes over the phone and email once or twice a year. These 3-5 hours of service that you give will benefit our Region greatly as you review scholarship applications. more

Messiah College Hosted PA Area Special Olympic Games
Messiah College hosted the Pennsylvania Area Special Olympics games April 20, 2017. This is the largest single day special Olympics event in PA with just over 1100 participants. Messiah College provides the facilities and 900 volunteers as we join with community volunteers to be “buddies”, run track and field events, provide entertainment by playing games, DJing a dance party and running the concession stands for this spectacular event. It was a real joy to see the smiles on everyone’s face.

Students Navigate New Destinations
Region 4 Student Staff Conference–New Destinations-Navigating your Future that was held April 8th at American University was a huge success. We had over 60 staff and students representing five Universities. We opened the conference with a Keynote Panel, which comprised of four former student conference staff and they discussed how their conference job was a great help in them obtaining their professional job after graduation. It was quite inspiring. We had six breakout sessions from How to Master the FisH philosophy to Maximizing your transferrable skills. It was a great way to learn, network and find out more about ACCED-I. We hope this will become an annual event within Region 4 each spring. If you need more information on hosting a student staff conference in your region, please contact Kim Araya at karaya@american.edu.

Region 4 Challenge
Do you have an institutional membership? If so, have you filled the space available for a student member? One of the goals in our region has been to provide an annual event focusing on student staff. Another related goal we have is to really see our student memberships for ACCED-I being used. So, if you’ve got an open space on your membership roster as an institutional member, let’s fill it. If you can support having more than one student employee on your ACCED-I membership, let’s try and give those opportunities and build the future leaders in the industry.

We Need You! Volunteer Opportunities with Region 4

There are a variety of ways to get involved with Region 4. Each area will work closely with the regional leadership to accomplish a variety of tasks and better serve the membership. Please indicate what areas you would consider assisting with.
